Geography and location

Turkey is a transcontinental Eurasian country. Asian Turkey, which includes 97 % of the country, is separated from European Turkey by the Bosporus, the Seaof Marmara, and the Dardanelles. Due to the geographical location of Turkey between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea the Turkey is seen as a corridor between Europe and Asia.
Turkey`s area, inclusive of lakes, occupies 783,562 square kilometers and has about 70,600,000 residents.

Regions of Turkey

Turkey is geographically divided into seven regions: Marmara, Aegean, Black Sea, Central Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia, Southeastern Anatolia and the Mediterranean.

Marmara (1)

The Marmara region is in the East of the Bosporus and with a surface area of 67,000 km2 the smallest but most densely populated of the seven regions of Turkey.
The Marmara Sea is connected with the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea by straits. It is geographically very important because it separates Europe and Asia.
The most important city of the Marmara Region is Istanbul.

Aegean Region (2)

The Aegan Region is located in the west part of the country, bounded by Aegean Sea.
The Aegean coastal plain enjoys an exceptionally mild climate, with soft, verdant springs, hot summers, sunny autumns and warm winters marked by occasional showers
this region offers a holiday with something for everyone - nature lovers, sun worshippers, photographers, sports enthusiasts, sailors and archaeologists
The most famous city of the Aegean Region is Izmir which is the third largest city of Turkey.

Mediterranean Region (3)

Mediterranean region takes its name from the Mediterranean Sea
The Mediterranean Region has a Mediterranean climate characterized by warm, relatively humid winters and hot, dry summers.
With many historically sights, the gulf of Antalya and its climate, the Mediterranean Region is the most important touristic centre of the Turkey. Antalya and Alanya are the most famous cities of the Mediterranean Region.
